Since 2009, Hillsborough OOSH has been providing local families with quality, affordable child care.

Our purpose-built centre is air conditioned and set in the grounds of Hillsborough Public School. We are committed to delivering a safe, supportive environment for children from Kindergarten to Year 6. We provide a ‘Today, Tomorrow’ program as we believe the children live in the here and now. Our program is designed to respond to the current needs and interests of the children as well as reflecting contributions from our educators, families and our local community.

Over at our second centre located at Wallsend South Public School we offer before and after school care. The centre’s facilities allow for planned and pre-organised inside and outside experiences.

Each week we have opportunities for free play, arts and craft, sport, games, reading, and homework, as well as quiet times. Children will now be able to use computers and Apple Ipad’s for further learning.

Safety is a priority at our Hillsborough and Wallsend South locations and we always have a qualified first aider on site. We have been rated as meeting all quality assessment areas by the Australian Children’s Education and Care Authority (ACECQA) so you can feel secure in the knowledge your child is in good hands.

Our Team

I have been working in child care for more than 18 years and are a mum to two adult children. I started this business in January 2009 and am committed to delivering quality child care where you can relax in the knowledge that your child is being cared for in a fun, safe and friendly environment.

I am mainly involved in running the business and administration of the OOSH but also take pleasure from working hands-on with the children.

I enjoy socialising with family and friends. I find both roles satisfying and challenging. I invite you to visit our centres and look forward to helping you with your child care needs.

Hi, my name is Tellena Ferry I am an Educational Leader at Hillsborough OOSH. I started out in Early childhood at 16 years of age by obtaining my Certificate III and Diploma, but due to my age I struggled to gain full time work, so after 18 months I ventured down the Business Administration path where I obtained my Certificate III & IV, then worked my way into a Human Resource position where I further gained my Certificate IV.

Throughout, the 6 years of being in HR Administration I really did miss one thing, working with children. My passion has always been to work with children, to assist and watch them grow and develop into independent individuals. Which is why I decided to follow my dreams and go back into the childcare field.

So, I am now working permanently at HB OOSH, whilst completing my Bachelor of Early Childhood and Primary Teaching Degree. I have never looked back since making this decision and love that every day is a new day with challenges, rewards, goals and since being back in this role, I have realised that the children can teach us educators, just as much as we teach them.

Hi, my name is Kylie and I have just celebrated my 10-year Anniversary for being the Assistant Coordinator at Hillsborough OOSH. I started my journey 20 years ago at the age of 16 completing work experience at the Glendon School (now known as Newcastle Junior School) and Hillsborough Public School. Whilst there I realised that working with children with different types of needs and personalities was a career that I wanted to pursue. I then volunteered every school holiday from Year 10 to Year 12 at the OOSH that at the time was in the Newcastle Junior School. I loved every second of it and have never looked back. Over the years I have studied and have obtained a Certificate 3 in Children’s Services as well as a Certificate 4 in OOSH Services.

I have enjoyed and continue to enjoy my time here learning and watching the children grow from Kindergarten and now having children come to visit me that have now completed high school. I am very family orientated outside of OOSH and therefore a strong believer that OOSH is the family in between school and home for the children here. We aim to be a support system for both you and your children and I look forward to learning more about your families during your time at our service. I also have a passion for soccer and love spending time outside playing and refereeing a game with the children. This is also a sport I play on weekends in Winter and I play 6 a side soccer in the Summer. I have a love for animals, spending lots of time with my gorgeous 4yr old Staffy named Roxy and would love to hear, learn and get to know the family pets that the children tell me about at your home.

I will be one of the many friendly faces you will see at OOSH each day and will mainly be assisting you with your accounts and bookings as well as building positive relationships with your children and their families

Hi, my name is Charissa Smith and I am the Supervisor at Hillsborough OOSH on a Wednesday afternoon. I also work as an Educator at our Elermore Vale centre on a Tuesday afternoon. I have my Diploma in Community Services (Children’s Services) and have worked in the industry for over 16 years. My interests include art and craft, yoga, mindfulness and spending time with my family and friends.

Hi, I’m Laura and I’m a casual educator at Hillsborough OOSH and I currently hold a Certificate III in Children’s Services.

Hi I’m Mathew and have been an Educator at Hillsborough OOSH for the last 10 years. I have a strong passion for working in child care and I think every day is a rewarding experience, my goal for every day is to achieve what I call a golden moment which is that point when a child strived past that moment of self-doubt and discovers a part of themselves.

At OOSH the children refer to me as the “Silly Teacher” however being spontaneous and fun is not my only role as I also teach the children about risky play and safety, wood construction, science and Nature.

At home I’m an avid beach walker and it’s not uncommon for children to see me walking my dog at Redhead beach. I’m a generally a welcoming personality so feel free to say Hi if you see me at work or just out and about.

Hi, my name is Carolyn and I’m a casual educator at Hillsborough OOSH. I hold a Certificate III in Child Care and have a child protection qualification as well. I also have completed training in senior first aid, anaphylaxis and asthma training.

Hi, my name is Eliza I am an Educator and Supervisor at Hillsborough OOSH. I’ve been in childcare for 7 years and have obtained my Certificate 3.

My passion has always been with building relationships with the children and families and learning and growing through their interests, beliefs and cultures

I am currently in my final year of Early Childhood and Primary Teaching at university and have been an educator at Hillsborough OOSH for nearly 2 years.

I believe that all children should experience a welcoming, unique and meaningful environment where they feel a sense of belonging. I also believe that all children are unique, confident and capable learners who have the right to feel included and equal to others around them. Along with these values, I believe that our wider community, parents and guardians are of great value.

My teaching philosophy also involves that children have the right to engage in meaningful and spontaneous play opportunities, such as, mud and water play. As an educator, it is a part of my role to incorporate these opportunities in a positive and exciting way.
